Rye grass needs fertilization

by The Pros

Rye grass is seeded in the winter creating a soft, lush very green lawn when very little else is green.  Rye grass is both green and growing.  When there is something green AND  growing it needs to be fertilized.  Fertilizer isn't usually applied in the winter.  However In the winter the rye grass needs fertilizer to keep it healthy.

As the rye grass grows it is taking nutrients from the soil.  Those nutrients need to be replenished for the dormant lawn lying under the rye grass to get a good start in the spring.

For the rye grass a fall fertilizer, which is low in nitrogen, is a good blend to use.  It keeps the rye grass green and prepares your under lawn to be healthy and lush, making your neighbors green with envy in the spring.
